OUR JOURNEY TO YOU
Our story begins in the summer of 1998, during Ohio's first energy utility deregulation test-pilot program. It was here that Justin and Brett, the future founders of DEVCOM, met as Independent Contractors. Brett, serving as Justin’s initial sales manager, guided him through his first sale at the door. Justin quickly mastered the craft, rapidly ascending to the top of the leaderboards, breaking and setting new sales records at local, state, and national levels.
Following their early success, Brett, Justin, and their teams embarked on a nationwide journey, recruiting, training, and selling in deregulated test-pilot programs across America. Under Brett’s leadership, their direct selling teams became some of the most successful in the industry, consistently earning awards and dominating national leaderboards.
In 2002, Justin and Brett made a strategic shift from energy deregulation to the telecommunications industry. During this transition, Justin developed the consultative-based direct selling model that would become DEVCOM's hallmark. Drawing on their deep expertise in Direct Sales, they cultivated a culture of servant leadership, which became the foundation of DEVCOM's signature values.
Their approach emphasized educating and empowering customers with clear, factual information—even at the cost of a sale. They believed that well-informed customers were the most valuable. This commitment to customer-centricity set them apart and proved to be exceptionally effective.
By 2006, Justin had become disillusioned with the unreliable and deceptive practices of third-party marketers. Determined to uphold his values and livelihood, he launched his own Agency, built on his proven model and unwavering commitment to customer focus. In June of that year, Justin secured his first ISP utility client, marking the start of a JD Power & Associates award-supporting partnership that continues to thrive today, 18 years later.
Over the past 26 years, Justin and Brett have evolved from pioneers in the energy utility deregulation to leading a specialized multi-client Agency in the ISP utility industry. Their complimenting expertise has enabled them to introduce and educate customers on emerging technologies over the years, including Voicemail and Caller ID, DSL, Broadband, VoIP, VoD, the DVR, Fiber-To-The-Home, and Streaming TV.
