To deliver your Internet service within your home, there are 4 core technologies to be aware of:
  • ​​MODEM: Ethernet hardwire only, no WIFI. 
  • ROUTER: Connects to your standalone modem to deliver your WIFI.
  • WIFI-MODEM COMBO: One unit that is both a modem and WIFI router. This is the most common technology provided by ISP's. 
  • MESH: State-of-the-art WIFI router technology designed to eliminate dead spots and connectivity issues in a home. Mesh systems are not yet provided in a combo unit and require connection to a modem or WIFI modem combo unit.

​BUYING VS. RENTING

When you buy your own modem and router or WIFI modem combo unit, the manufacturer (e.g. Netgear, Arris, etc.) provides any troubleshooting Customer Service you may require for your device(s). Our call center experience with the major WIFI modem manufacturers is a fantastic one. To activate your own equipment on your ISP network, you will need to contact your ISP's customer service and add the MAC ID address located on your modem/WIFI modem combo unit (sticker).
